Olivia Martinez is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and a member of the American Nurses Association and The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State. She received her Master of Science in nursing, family nurse practitioner from the State University of New York at Polytechnic Institute in Utica, NY. Olivia completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing in Chicago, IL. She also earned an Associate of Science in biology from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, and an Associate of Science in nursing from Albany Memorial School of Nursing in Albany, NY. Olivia is interested in preventative medicine, mental health, and addiction medicine.
Olivia’s curiosity for science, mixed with her innate empathetic drive, led her to pursue a career in the medical field. She began her nursing career working on an inpatient medical unit specializing in eating disorders and cystic fibrosis at Albany Medical Center. During this time, Olivia gained an immense amount of knowledge and an awareness of healthcare needs in the community. This experience only heightened her desire to pursue an advanced practice degree to better serve patients and aid in preventing chronic disease. Olivia also has experience working in urgent care, a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and endoscopy.
What Olivia loves most about being a primary care provider is having the opportunity to see people across the lifespan when they are well and able to focus on health and disease prevention and also when they are unwell and looking for a diagnosis. Olivia believes in a patient-centered, collaborative approach to medicine and seeing every patient as an individual. She feels communication, empathy, and establishing a trusting relationship are key and are achieved through active listening and educating the patient on their health and disease process.
Outside of work, Olivia enjoys traveling (especially to Aruba), all things food, staying active, and enjoying life with family, friends, and her two cats, Opie and Tig!
