Tethkar Ahmad, MSN, FNP-C, is a Family Nurse Practitioner with Albany Family Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany and her Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from Hudson Valley Community College. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University at Buffalo and her Master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner from SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
With a background in nursing, Tethkar was drawn to family medicine because of the opportunity to care for the whole person and build lasting relationships with patients. During her training, one of the most meaningful lessons she learned was the importance of being present, listening carefully, and truly understanding each patient. She believes meaningful healthcare begins with partnering with patients and empowering them to take an active role in their health.
Her approach emphasizes kindness, empathy, education, and shared decision-making. Tethkar takes the time to understand her patients’ concerns and provide guidance and education so they can make informed decisions about their care. She believes patients should have the knowledge and understanding they need before making decisions about their health, rather than feeling pressured toward a particular course of action.
Tethkar has a particular interest in endocrinology and nephrology, while valuing the comprehensive nature of family medicine and caring for patients across their health journeys. One of the aspects she enjoys most about her work is guiding patients toward better health and having the privilege of supporting families as they grow and celebrate important milestones. She also values being there for patients during times when they need additional support. She strives to help patients establish realistic, sustainable goals that support disease prevention, wellness, and long-term health.
A longtime member of the Capital Region community, Tethkar is passionate about contributing to the health and well-being of the community she calls home.
Outside of work, she enjoys biking, exploring local trails, embroidery, hosting celebrations, and learning new languages. She is also fluent in Arabic, including reading and writing.
