Biography

Matthew Hickling earned his Master of Science in nursing – advanced practice nursing in child health from SUNY Stony Brook. He received his Baccalaureate of Science in nursing from Russell Sage College and began his undergraduate studies at Castleton State College in Vermont, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in sports medicine. Matthew is a member of several associations, including the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), the Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (SDBP), the Emergency Nursing Association, and the American Nursing Association.

Prior to joining Community Care Physicians, Matthew worked in pediatric intensive care, hematology/oncology, and pediatric emergency medicine. He also gained experience from his schooling, where he learned about primary care, endocrinology, pulmonary medicine, and sports medicine. Matthew chose to specialize in pediatrics so he could have the ability to create patient relationships. He advocates for those who don’t have an understanding of their health and need help making healthy choices. Matthew has a special medical interest in patient relationships, community health and wellness, and prevention.

Matthew’s favorite part of the job is being able to bring reassurance to families and being a part of something that gives families ease. He loves the complexity of working through various diagnoses with families and his colleagues, challenging himself to learn and expand his knowledge. He believes working with the families in the practice is an honor; being a part of the medical team that cares for patients is a wonderful experience.

In his spare time, Matthew spends his time with his family and his son. They enjoy hiking, sports, puzzles, reading, being outside, trying new things, and learning together. Physical fitness is important to him, along with traveling. Matthew also participates in non-for-profits, including Maddie’s Mark, Nick’s Fight to be Healed, Things of My Very Own, and the Melodies Center.
