Jenna Desbiens is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and certified emergency nurse. She is a member of the American Nurses Association. Jenna received her Master of Science in nursing, family nurse practitioner from SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, NY. She began her studies at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, earning her Bachelor of Science in nursing. Jenna values all aspects of family medicine but is especially interested in working with children, adolescents, teens, and young adults. She has previously worked in pediatrics and adult and pediatric emergency medicine.
Jenna decided to pursue medicine early on in her life, although she didn’t know it at the time. She always wanted to help people, but she found her desire to become a healthcare worker during her senior year of high school when she had the opportunity to shadow multiple different occupations in a hospital. Though Jenna’s pediatrician was the ultimate reason she decided to pursue medicine. It was clear how deeply he cared for his patients and their families, and that is the type of provider she aspires to be.
What drew Jenna to pursue family medicine is the desire to provide quality, evidence-based care to all. She knows going to the doctor is scary for some, and she strives to make that experience more enjoyable while helping patients achieve their health goals. Her favorite part of her job is seeing patients return for a visit, getting to know them and their families, their goals for their health and life, and helping them on that journey the best she can. When caring for her patients, Jenna aligns her care plans with the goals of her patients. In other words, she believes in working as a team with her patients to develop these health goals and work together to achieve them.
Jenna is originally from Johnstown, NY, a small town with a tight-knit community. Charlton had a similar feel in that it is a small town with a big heart, which drew her to practice medicine in that area! She feels it is a privilege to care for generations of families. In her spare time, Jenna loves being outdoors with her husband and her family. She likes camping, fishing, walking, skiing, and playing in the snow. Jenna also loves to bake!
