Ian Brady is a Mental Health Counselor and Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) on our Integrated Behavioral Health team. BHCs at Community Care Physicians are licensed mental health providers and social workers. Many are embedded within our practices working side by side with your doctor and health care team in delivering you the best “whole person” healthcare possible.
Ian has experience working with people across the lifespan both individually and in family sessions. He has worked within the integrated health model to treat substance use/abuse, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, PTSD, stress management, low self-esteem, communication issues, chronic pain, identity confusion and exploration, attachment disorders, and work-related issues like stress and career exploration. Ian also brings experience in working with the LGBTQIA+ community and gender-questioning populations. His work with CCP’s Integrated Behavioral Health thus far has allowed him to help a wide variety of patients ranging in age, religion, gender identity, and sexual identity.
Ian decided to pursue a career in behavioral health after going through the hardest year of his adolescence as a result of Hurricane Irene, which destroyed his childhood home. While dealing with this, his guidance counselor pulled him out of class and told him she saw him and couldn’t imagine the strength it took to persevere. Since then, Ian has dedicated his life and studies to helping others be seen and validated in their own life.
What Ian loves most about his job is the amount of variance between each individual that comes to behavioral health for treatment. He says, “The number of differing backgrounds, beliefs, and values make for a unique experience in getting to know patients and assisting them towards their goals identified in treatment.” Ian also loves collaborating with other health providers that are a part of the patient’s care team. He believes it is important for clinicians to work together in their areas of expertise to improve the patient’s quality of life.
Outside work, Ian spends most of his time reading fictional or psychological books, exploring new places, and caring for his plants.
