About

CapitalCare Pediatrics Troy has been part of the local community for more than 40 years and continues to proudly serve families in the Capital District of NY. Our goal has always been to provide the best medical, developmental, and emotional care from infancy to college-age children in collaboration with the family. Our practice has been Recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a New York State Patient-Centered Medical Home (NYS PCMH). This designation affirms our commitment to the delivery of innovative, quality, compassionate healthcare and highlights our dedication to the wellbeing of our patients. Our expectation is that we will be a resource for our families to keep their children healthy and moving toward their best potential.

We perform preventative visits, nutrition and weight management, lactation services, Reach Out and Read literacy enhancement, mental health support, developmental/mental health screening, special needs and complex care, and adoption experience. We always have a practitioner on call after hours and on weekends. We also offer telemedicine services and a patient portal for our patients to connect with us securely online.

Our office partners with Vanderheyden, a local organization that offers care management services to patients under 21, with active Medicaid and certain qualifying conditions, including chronic medical, developmental, or mental health conditions such as ADHD, asthma, autism, and diabetes. There is no cost to patients for these services, which can be offered in the office or virtually. Parents and caregivers can contact our office to learn more and see if their child qualifies.

Our approach to caregiving is to share important decisions with caregivers with a strong element of trust. One area that we do have expectations of trust is in our recommendations concerning immunizations. We have strong confidence in the science and the extensive experience concerning the critical personal and public health benefits of this protection. At CapitalCare Pediatrics Troy, we believe that vaccinating our children and young adults may be the single most important health-promoting intervention that we perform. We firmly believe in the safety of our vaccines and support the appropriate administration of vaccines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and American Academy of Pediatrics schedule.

We understand that some caregivers may have uncertainty or distrust of the process of immunization, and we are happy to review our expertise in this area. We have the following vaccine policy:

  • We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics Immunization Guidelines and expect caregivers to generally accept those recommendations and schedule, barring very specific medical exemptions.
  • We will need to have reasonable assurances from caregivers who have a child with a significant delay in immunizations that we can work out a process to achieve full immunization status.
  • We do not give non-medical exemptions for immunizations.
  • Please understand that significant or ongoing delays in immunization may require caregivers to seek care elsewhere.

We are dedicated to taking care of children and are eager to form a healthcare team with families. However, we cannot let lack of immunizations be an obstacle to the welfare of all children. We would hope that care givers can place their trust in us for this very important part of their child’s health protection.
