Biography

“Wellness is the complete integration of body, mind, and spirit. The realization that everything we do, think, feel, and believe affects our state of well-being.” – Greg Anderson

Emily O’Donnell, a board-certified family nurse practitioner, is a highly qualified healthcare professional. She earned her Master of Science in nursing, family nurse practitioner from Utica University in Utica, NY, and holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, NY. Additionally, she has a Bachelor of Arts in human development and family studies from The University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. Her nursing journey began at Maria College in Albany, NY, where she earned her Associate of Applied Science. Emily’s decision to specialize in family medicine stems from her passion for providing comprehensive care to individuals across all stages of life, acknowledging the unique perspectives, life experiences, and health challenges each age group faces.

Emily has always found the healthcare field to be very interesting. She felt nursing was the best route for her because of the science and art that nursing entails. Her favorite part of working in the medical field is the connections you make with patients. She believes empowering individuals to take control of their health is such a rewarding experience. The most crucial thing Emily does when caring for patients is making them feel seen and heard regarding their health. As a nurse practitioner, Emily strives to advocate for her patients and work with them through shared decision-making to ensure they feel in control of their healthcare as much as possible.

Emily’s roots are deeply embedded in the Capital Region as she is originally from Niskayuna. She was always impressed by the high standard of healthcare provided in this area, both inpatient and outpatient. Emily’s commitment to her community’s health is evident in her statement, “Providing care in this area is important to me because I believe we have a responsibility to ensure our community’s happiness and health.” Her educational journey and professional experiences have reinforced her belief that healthcare professionals are perpetual learners in this ever-evolving field.

Emily is a lover of sports and physical activity. Having been a college softball player at UConn, being active has remained an important part of her life, whether it’s going to the gym, riding her bike, or hiking. Emily’s love for sports has stayed with her into her adulthood. She enjoys going to live sporting events, and in the last few years, she has also taken up golf. In her downtime, Emily likes spending time at her family’s lake house in the Adirondacks and vacationing on Cape Cod.
