More than 3,000 Capital Region students join V-Healthy Day to learn about heart health

More than 3,000 students across the Capital Region took part Friday in V-Healthy Day, a program aimed at teaching heart health and how to measure it.

“Overall, over the 10 years we have now impacted probably over 25,000 students in the Capital Region, teaching them about the risks of hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, vaping, genetics and all those things so they can prevent development of diabetes, they can eat better, they can take better care of themselves, they understand nutrition better and it’s really a focus on prevention,” said Dr. Manish Mehta, president and chairman of the Center for Vascular Awareness. “It starts at a very early age and that’s why we started this program from a high school level.”

Dr. Manish Mehta is President and CEO of Center for Vascular Awareness and a practicing vascular surgeon at Vascular Health Partners of Community Care Physicians.
