The surge in demand for popular GLP-1 weight loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy is colliding with a growing list of insurance requirements that can make getting a prescription filled far more complicated than many patients expect.

Dr. Gloria Guptill, lead physician at Community Care Physicians in Delmar, said more patients have been asking about the medications after seeing them discussed widely and hearing about friends or family members taking them.
