Dr. Vishnudas Pai is a board-certified general surgeon practicing in the upstate New York area for the last 17 years. He also has a large experience in the bariatric field, dealing with people with weight issues. Dr. Pai speaks and is fluent in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Konkani. He’s actively trying to learn Spanish. Along with Community Care General Surgery in Latham, New York, he sees patients at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, New York, and Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York. Dr. Pai earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India. He completed his internship at Bronx-Lebanon Medical Center in Bronx, New York, and his surgical residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Pai also completed postgraduate training in surgical oncology at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore, India. He began his studies at Sarvodaya College in Tumkur, India, completing his undergraduate studies. Dr. Pai also received his Master of Science from the Government Medical College in Srinagar, India.
Dr. Pai was attracted to medicine because of his fascination with the complexity of the human body. He loves interacting with and learning more about his patients, including their likes, jobs, and interests. Dr. Pai is interested in obesity medicine and lifestyle medicine and its impact on improving health, especially with diet, exercise, and sleep. He believes the role of preventive healthcare is very important to not only himself but also his patients.
Dr. Pai is originally from southern India. His education in Syracuse and the natural beauty of upstate New York drew him to the Capital Region area. In his spare time, Dr. Pai likes to keep physically active and enjoys running, swimming, kayaking, camping, and skiing. He also enjoys quiet time with solving crosswords and reading sci-fi novels.
