Dr. Nicholson earned his medical degree and Ph.D. in anatomy and neurobiology from Boston University School of Medicine, Massachusetts. He has a clinical psychology background, receiving a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Wesleyan University, Connecticut.
