Sarah A. Budik, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in vascular surgery. Her interest in medicine began at a young age after exposure to the veterinary field, which sparked her desire to care for others. As she explored medicine, she was drawn to surgery because of its hands-on nature, fast pace, and the opportunity to directly address complex problems while building meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.
Dr. Budik earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Animal Science from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, before earning her Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the University at Buffalo and a vascular surgery fellowship at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is board eligible in vascular surgery. She is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Budik was particularly drawn to the variety and complexity of vascular surgery throughout her training. She enjoys caring for patients with both urgent and chronic vascular conditions and appreciates the opportunity to tailor treatment to each patient. Her experience includes minimally invasive and endovascular procedures as well as medical management, allowing her to help patients manage vascular disease while continuing to care for them over time.
For Dr. Budik, one of the most rewarding parts of her work is making a meaningful difference in her patients’ lives. She enjoys solving complex medical problems, treating patients directly, and seeing them feel better and improve their quality of life. She believes listening is essential to good patient care and strives to understand what matters most to each patient, clearly explain their options, and work together to develop a treatment plan that fits their individual goals.
Originally from Buffalo, Dr. Budik always hoped to return to New York to practice medicine. The Capital Region appealed to her both professionally and personally, offering opportunities to build her career while enjoying the outdoor lifestyle she values. Outside of medicine, she enjoys running, hiking, camping, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors.
