Rommel Tolentino

Dr. Rommel Tolentino is board certified in pediatrics and internal medicine and fluent in Tagalog. He cares for patients from infancy through advanced age. Dr. Tolentino is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians. He received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, NY, and completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Dr. Tolentino attended SUNY Buffalo in Buffalo, NY, earning his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. It was during his second year of college that he decided to pursue a career in medicine. Although Dr. Tolentino initially wanted to pursue a career as a research scientist, through his experiences volunteering at hospitals and following his uncle around doing patient rounds, Dr. Tolentino found that practicing medicine interested him more. As a third-year medical student rotating in internal medicine, he was fortunate to have a senior resident on his team who was an internal medicine and pediatrics resident who got him interested in the challenge of learning and practicing both specialties. During his fourth year of medical school, he was assigned to work with him again on the inpatient pediatric service, which pretty much finalized his decision for dual specialty.

Dr. Tolentino enjoys the dual specialties of internal medicine and pediatrics because he likes caring for multiple generations of the same family. Being an internist and pediatrician allows him to really get to know his patients and their families and build a strong partnership with them. Dr. Tolentino says, “Each patient has a different story to tell, so the job is definitely never boring. Keeping people well and shepherding patients through illness is a rewarding experience.” He is interested in all aspects of care, but keeping people healthy and on the right track before becoming ill or afflicted with a chronic medical issue is most important to him.

Dr. Tolentino is a native of the Capital Region. Schodack Internal Medicine and Pediatrics is a corporate member of the Rotary Club of Southern Rensselaer County, and through them, he helps sponsor numerous charitable endeavors in the community. He is also a member of the Community Care Physicians Board of Directors and serves as the co-chair of the Community Care Physicians’ Electronic Health Records and Technology Advisory Committee. Dr. Tolentino plays the piano outside of the office and loves to travel; he has been to Europe, South America, and Asia! He also enjoys playing tennis, golf, and biking.
