Dr. Nyi-Rein Kyaw is a resident physician at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, NY. An Upstate New York native, he grew up in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, NY. He completed his undergraduate education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and his medical education at Albany Medical College, where he participated in their combined degree BS/MD program. He currently resides locally in Albany, NY, and continues to take pride in caring for the members of his own community.
Dr. Kyaw’s journey into family medicine began early in his medical education, a result of his various hobbies, including cooking, exercising, and painting. He finds tremendous value in caring for both physical and mental health, as he believes that managing personal health and dedicating time towards personal interests and activities go hand in hand in living a healthy life. As he continued through his clinical education, his love for building patient relationships and his commitment to longitudinal care further solidified his interest in family medicine.
Dr. Kyaw’s clinical interests include sports medicine and musculoskeletal pathology in addition to general family practice. Having completed his education in the Capital Region and being close to his family, choosing Albany Family Medicine to complete his residency training was an easy decision. He has witnessed firsthand the care and compassion of the members of this team, as well as each person’s commitment to teaching residents to become truly capable physicians.
Outside of the clinic and the hospital, you’ll likely find Dr. Kyaw riding his restored ’90s mountain bike, cooking and eating meals with his friends, taking care of his plants, and playing his guitar a little too loudly.
