Kimani K. LaFond is a Mental Health Counselor and works as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) on our Integrated Behavioral Health team. BHCs at Community Care Physicians are licensed mental health providers and social workers. Many are embedded within our practices working side by side with your doctor and health care team in delivering you the best “whole person” healthcare possible.
Kimani is a dedicated mental health counselor who is passionate about fostering self-discovery, empowerment, and healing.
With experience in individual, group, and couples therapy, Kimani has worked with diverse populations facing a range of mental health challenges, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorders, PTSD, trauma-related concerns, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and career-related stress. His clinical training at Albany Medical Center involved conducting intake assessments, facilitating therapy sessions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in an outpatient psychiatry setting. He incorporates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy into his practice.
Kimani’s research background includes studying childhood adversity’s impact on adult relational dynamics and exploring distress related to capitalism. His passion for mental health advocacy stems from his personal experiences growing up in a Black Caribbean household where emotional vulnerability was often overlooked. Recognizing the importance of healing and self-exploration, he strives to create a safe space for clients to feel seen, heard, and empowered. His work is deeply rooted in breaking generational cycles, challenging harmful patterns, and guiding individuals toward reclaiming their sense of self and well-being.
Kimani believes behavioral health treatment is more than symptom management—it’s about transformation, resilience, and rewriting one’s narrative. His goal is to meet patients where they are, walk alongside them in their journey, and remind them that their voices and stories truly matter.
In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting, exploring the mind-body connection, and supporting his favorite football teams, the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. He enjoys unwinding with his wife by watching Marvel movies and comedies like Bob’s Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Psych, appreciating their humor and storytelling.
