Dr. Kathleen Shanley completed her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She is currently the president of the Capital District Pediatric Society.
Dr. Shanley is originally from the Capital Region. She began her studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, earning her bachelor’s degree in chemistry. During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Shanley worked in a pediatric hematology/oncology unit, where she saw how special the bond is between providers, patients, and their families. This experience significantly impacted how she viewed medicine and ultimately solidified her decision to pursue a career in the medical field. During her residency training, she served as the American Academy of Pediatrics program delegate at Albany Medical Center. She was actively involved in asthma research at Albany Medical Center, working to label inhalers at pharmacies to improve patient education about the proper use of asthma inhalers. Dr. Shanley was awarded the Capital District Pediatric Society Otto Faust Award for Excellence in Pediatric Medicine during her residency.
Dr. Shanley’s favorite part of her job is the children – her patients always put a smile on her face! She believes getting to know each child and their family as a whole is most important. She is eager to help families through all of the new experiences that come with having a baby.
In her spare time, Dr. Shanley enjoys spending time at home with her husband and their dog. They enjoy spending time at Saratoga Lake in the summer and skiing in the winter.
