Biography

With more than 11 years of nursing experience, Katherine (Katy) Kivela is a board-certified family nurse practitioner specializing in the care of adult patients. She received a Master of Science in nursing, family nurse practitioner from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, and earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Katy’s goal is to give her patients the tools to be the healthiest version of themselves. She is interested in GLP 1 medications with weight loss indications, such as Wegovy and Saxenda.

When Katy was growing up, her father had a tumor and was in and out of the hospital, so she spent some time around healthcare and saw the impact that the healthcare staff had on families, which is when she decided to pursue this path as a career. Katy loves helping people become their healthiest version of themselves or empowering them to be healthier/stay healthy.

Katy has been a BSN nurse since she was 22-years-old, and she always knew she would return to get her advanced nursing degree. She has experience working in medical-surgical, cardiac, and perioperative units, as well as in family practice. Katy believes education is most important when caring for patients. She loves to pass on her knowledge of the medical field to empower her patients toward better results and make them feel like they have control of their health.

Katy has two dogs, River and Winter, and loves taking them on walks and playing fetch. She also loves going to the Adirondacks and spending time on the lake, kayaking, boat fishing, or just laying on a lawn chair by the water reading a book.
