James K. Owusu, FNP-BC, is a dedicated family nurse practitioner who is passionate about providing compassionate and comprehensive care. He holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from SUNY Delhi and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in Chicago. James earned his Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner from Binghamton University and is certified by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. He is a member of the American Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Fluent in both English and Twi (Akan), he connects deeply with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Originally from Brooklyn, NY, James began his medical career at Albany Medical Center as a staff nurse before exploring various healthcare settings as a travel nurse. His experiences across the Capital Region fostered a deep appreciation for the area’s cultural diversity and strong healthcare community, inspiring him to settle in Clifton Park. Growing up in Ghana, where scarce healthcare resources ignited his commitment to medicine and the importance of accessible, high-quality care. This background instilled a lifelong mission to make a difference by addressing healthcare disparities and improving local and global outcomes.
James believes that communication is the cornerstone of excellent patient care. He emphasizes listening closely to his patients, understanding their needs holistically, and going above and beyond to ensure they receive the proper treatment. James specializes in family medicine, with a particular interest in diabetes education and primary prevention. Through community initiatives such as church food drives, health screenings, and educational talks, he actively promotes wellness and preventive care.
Beyond his medical practice, James is deeply involved in his community. He serves as a praise and worship leader at his local church and is passionate about music, playing drums and keyboards. A sports enthusiast, he enjoys basketball, soccer, and boxing.
