Alyson Demitraszek

FNP-BC

Biography

Alyson Demitraszek, a board-certified family nurse practitioner, brings a wealth of nursing expertise to Upstate Hematology Oncology. Her professional journey includes being a member of the American Nurses Association, and earning her Master of Science in nursing from Utica University in Utica, NY, and her Bachelor of Science in nursing from SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, NY.

Alyson knew a desk job wasn’t for her. She became a registered nurse partly because of the role itself and always being on the go. She also loved the science aspect of nursing and the ever-evolving field of medicine. Alyson wanted a career in which she was constantly learning new things and could also make a positive impact on people’s lives through the care she delivered.

Her favorite part is the patients. Alyson loves the meaningful relationships she is able to form with them. She believes listening to patients is most important because each patient knows their body better than anyone else and knows what they are feeling. Alyson also believes gathering a detailed and accurate HPI is vital as it can help guide clinical decision-making to formulate workup, diagnosis, and treatment. As a nurse practitioner, she treats each patient individually and takes the time to listen to their questions and concerns. She ensures all care she provides is respectful, kind, and patient centered. What brings Alyson the most satisfaction professionally is seeing improvements in her patients based on the treatment plan she and the patient developed. The biggest takeaway from her combined years of RN and NP practice has been the importance of communication. Whether it is communication with a patient, their family, or interdisciplinary team members, Alyson feels that maintaining open communication ensures continuity of care and promotes trust in the healthcare setting.

Outside of her professional life, Alyson is a person of many interests. She hails from Millbrook, NY in Dutchess County, and enjoys skiing, golfing, reading, and spending quality time with her husband and son. These personal interests not only provide balance to her life but also contribute to her holistic approach to patient care.
