Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. Avery Stec is a resident physician at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience and psychology at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. During her time as a Boston resident after college, she participated in research within the field of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, worked as a medical scribe, got her Master of Science in biomedical science at Tufts University in Medford, MA, coached rowing, and worked in various roles at a family planning clinic providing women’s health services. Dr. Stec fell in love with the family medicine specialty when she worked with family physicians at the clinic. She remembers that they seemed to do it all: they worked with whole families and communities, positively impacted health inequities, and guided individuals through the healthcare system throughout their lives. Throughout medical school at PCOM, she became passionate about preventative care, care continuity, LGBTQ+ inclusive care, reproductive health and family planning, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and sports/musculoskeletal medicine. Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys various activities that keep her balanced and happy. Dr. Stec loves watching drive-in movies with her wife, Heather, and spending quality time with family and friends. Outdoor activities, cooking, board games, and British TV shows are also always a hit for her! Dr. Stec is passionate about water sports and enjoys watching collegiate women’s basketball games. In her downtime, she finds solace in caring for and propagating houseplants, knitting, and practicing yoga.
