It’s an honor to be selected again as a Hudson Valley Top Doctor. It is a privilege to be the trusted health adviser and advocate for my patients. Although my job has been increasingly challenging over the last couple of years, each day I am reminded of why I continue to do it – whether it is seeing a patient that has overcome a serious illness or learning something new about one of my patients that I find interesting, or even sharing a laugh with them. I also know that I don’t do this job alone. I am backed up by a hardworking and dedicated team of healthcare professionals, and this honor is as much for them as it is for me.

Learn About Dr. Tolentino

Dr. Rommel Tolentino is a bilingual board-certified pediatrician and internist fluent in Tagalog. At Schodack Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, he cares for patients from infancy through advanced age. Dr. Tolentino is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians. He received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Tolentino decided to pursue medicine during his second year of college. Initially, he wanted to be a research scientist, but through his volunteer experiences at hospitals and shadowing his uncle during patient rounds, he found that practicing medicine sparked his interest more. As a third-year medical student rotating in internal medicine, Dr. Tolentino was fortunate to have a senior resident on his team who was an internal medicine and pediatrics resident who got him interested in the challenge of learning and practicing both specialties. Then, during his fourth year of medical school, he was assigned to work with him again on the inpatient pediatric service, which solidified his decision for dual specialty.

Dr. Tolentino enjoys the dual specialties of internal medicine and pediatrics because he likes caring for multiple generations of the same family. Being an internist and pediatrician allows him to really get to know his patients and their families and build a strong partnership with them. He says, “Each patient has a different story to tell, so the job is definitely never boring. Keeping people well and shepherding patients through illness is a rewarding experience.”
