DOT physicals are performed by our urgent care doctors who are certified medical examiners. Physicals are performed at our Latham, NY location, which is easily accessible by all those in the Albany and Capital Region, NY region.

A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is a health examination mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. A DOT physical helps determine if a driver is fit to operate a CMV.

If you are a commercial driver, for your safety and the public’s safety, FMCSA requires you to pass a DOT physical to maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Federal law requires drivers of commercial motor vehicles (DMVs) to receive regular physical examinations. These exams are defined as the “Department of Transportation Medical Examinations.” DOT physicals are highly regulated for the drivers’ safety. Keeping drivers safe is crucial to Our Urgent Care.

What to Bring to your DOT physical at Urgent Care Latham

  1. Current driver’s license
  2. If applicable, a complete list of ALL medications and doses
  3. If applicable, paperwork from treating provider (primary/specialists)
  4. Payment (we accept cash, credit card, and debit card)

You do not need to bring your form with you. We have the Medical Examiner’s Report Form (long form) and Medical Examiner's Certificate (medical card) for those who drivers who are certified.

Getting your DOT physical is easy

  1. Schedule your appointment - When appointments are available
  2. Get your physical - the DOT examination will include a health history review, a thorough physical exam captured in the Medical Examination Report, and a urine test for Commercial Driver Fitness Determination.
  3. Receive your medical card - Upon exam completion, our certified medical examiner will determine if you are certified or disqualified. You will receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) – also called a DOT medical card when you meet the DOT physical requirements. Without a valid DOT medical card, you can lose your CDL. We can certify drivers for a maximum of two years. Drivers who take oral medication for blood pressure and/or diabetes will typically receive a one-year card. Depending on the driver’s health, the medical examiner will determine the card’s expiration date.
